Brazilian pousadas are one of the most traditional types of accommodation you will find in Brazil. Wherever there are no hotels, you will always find a pousada.
Pousadas are a distant relative of the bed & breakfast. There are incredibly sofisticated (and expensive!) pousadas as well as really simple and affordable ones. Unlike hotels, they tend to be smallish in size. You won’t find pousadas in the shape of high rises.
Pousadas tend to offer less services than a hotel. For instance, at a pousada you are unlikely to find organized entertainment for your kids.
When it comes to the charm factor, pousadas always win hands down. Nothing beats a pousada by the beach.
